Owning a humidor requires you to keep maintaining it. Temperature and humidity levels are key factors to having a properly functioning humidor that will keep cigars in the best condition.
Do you need to put anything in a humidor?
In order to keep your prized cigars in top condition, you may have wondered do you need to put anything inside a humidor to help keep it functioning to its optimal performance?
The humidifier in your humidor should be topped up with a humidification solution. This solution is usually a mixture of distilled water, polyglycol and a mould blocker which, when used properly, will ensure that it is kept at the right levels in both temperature and humidity.
Can you use tap water in a cigar humidifier?
Its not recommended to use tap water inside as it can attract mould and block up the humidor’s pores.
Stay away from tap water and use distilled water instead which is a lot cleaner and has in most cases gone through a process of being boiled thus removing any nasty bacteria that could form and build up inside.
Using a few drops of distilled water each time you season your humidor will be sufficient to keep it moist enough for the humidification device to regulate and maintain the optimal temperatures and humidity levels for your cigars.
